Night 3/26/15
Prompt: Describe the characters and the settings
So far in this book we have not meet to
many characters. Really the only characters we have meet are Elie his family
and Moshe. Other than that we have not been introduced to another characters
that have a huge effect on the story. The first person I want to talk about is
Elie, he is the main character in the book so fair. He is around the age of 12
and is thirsty to learn more about his religion and his culture. Even though
his dad disagrees with him wanting to learn about his religion Elie still
continues to want to be a master of Kabbalah. I feel like Elie has not completely
found his place in the community of the world. He has not found the path that
he will take for the rest of his life like most 15-year-old boys. Instead he is
still learning and under the influence of his family and community members.
Moshe is the second character I want to talk about.
At first I thought he was the main character because he was talked about
a lot but I soon realized Elie was the main character. Moshe is Elie's role
model when it comes to Judaism and there religion. Moshe is poor but still
has faith on his religion. Even though Moshe kind of disappears from the book
after a couple a pages he still is the represents
the commitment of Judaism.
The setting of this book first starts in a small town called
Sighet in Transylvania. It is in 1944 right before Germany was defeated in WW2. Basically all
the community members are Jewish but they still are very open to other people.
After the first 17 pages the setting change from Sighet to a ghetto. After a
couple of weeks maybe they started making it into a normal community with police,
jobs, and even a small government. Then they went to
the concentration camps were the conditions were terrible. It was
something that no one should have to ever endure

Holocaust AOW Impressions
This week we did a gallery walk based of the holocaust. There were
lots of different articles this week. There were different point of views,
different time periods, and different situations. I learned a lot about the
holocaust I was able to learn a lot more about the small details and not just
the regular stuff I have already learned. Overall this week really informed me
a lot about the holocaust more then ever.
This one article that really interested me was Bella's article. They talked about this man named Tomi, he worked in the concentration camps and torture baby's and there mother. He also did experiment on them, which lead to 400,000 deaths. I also learned that originally we thought there were only 7,000 camps but later found out there was 42,500 camps. This caused researchers to dig deeper into the holocaust finding out more then ever. My favorite articles were Marisa's, Bella's, and Autumn's. I say this because they were all different and were the articles that I felt gave me the most information.

Berlin Memorial Reflection
This activity was very informational I learned a lot about the
laws and the time leading up to the war. I always new that there were laws
placed to limit what Jews could do but I did not know there where so many.
The main thing I learned from this activity is that Hitler took away their
rights strategically to take away the Jews humanity without other countries
finding. I think they put this monument up to apologize to the Jews and say
sorry fro what they did. It might also be to remember the mistakes they made
and try to avoid them in the future.
I notice in the
beginning the laws were slowly being placed maybe to lower there moral but not
scare them enough to start complaining and start problems for the Nazis. Then right
when the war started all the laws started being put into place probably because
the other countries are now focusing on fighting the Germans and not worrying
about the Jews and the laws that are being placed against them. I think
the law that I would have the most problems with is the friends law. Were you
cant have friends that are Jewish because I am a person that can be friends
with anyone so it would be frustrating not being able to have certain friends due to there religion.
The other law that I think I would have a problem with is the sporting camp
law. My life is mainly based off of sports so if I was not allowed do sports
because I was Jewish I would probably live a very boring life.

3rd Quarter Reflections
The third
quarter I feel went by pretty fast. I think its because I am getting ready for
the fourth quarter when school starts getting interesting. In nervous because I
think fourth quarter is going to go by super fast and before I know it I’m
going to be going to high school. Anyway this quarter I feel I have grown
greatly in describing details but not dragging on at the same time. In the
beginning of the quarter I would go on about a small detail for like a whole
paragraph but now I feel like I get strait to the point. One other thing I feel
like I improved in is turning my work in on time. In the beginning of the 3rd
quarter I would turn my blogs in late but I have been working on managing my
time better and turning things in on time.
Something that I am proud of that I have done this
quarter is I did not have to stay up until 10-11 o-clock doing homework. I have
managed my time a lot better this quarter I have learned not to wait for the
last day to turn in all my homework. It feels a lot better to not having to be
stressing about all this work that I have pilled up to do on the last day. The
most challenging part about this quarter was the argumentative section. There
was just so much research you had to do and also having to be able to put it
all into words without adding your own opinion in the writing. This quarter I
feel like I have learned the most out of all the quarters especially in this
class. Due to the new Aow gallery walks I have learned so many things
about the world that I probably would have never learned about if it weren’t
for the gallery walk. Overall this quarter was by far my favorite in so many
ways.

AoW Impressions 3-6-15
I think this week was the most informational out of all the other weeks. This week I feel had the most variety. Pretty much every week we have done this Isis was the main topic it was talked about one way or another. This week there was really no one main topic this week it varied from found WW2 battleships to a dress that seems to change color. There were even some articles that were about the same thing but showing different sides of the topic. Overall this week was very informational and I learned a lot about world events. The most interesting thing I learned from this week was how a dress looks a different color based on your DNA. Scientist have researched a dress that seems to look a different color to different people. The dress looks either gold and white or black or blue and what researchers have found is that it is based on the genes that were passed down from your parents. That was really interesting and that was why it was one of my favorite articles.
Another thing that I learned from this gallery walk was the lost Japanese battleship that has been found. It was called the Musashi, It was a WW2 warship and the biggest of its kind. It was sunk by an American battleship in 1944. For decades historians have searched for it to finally find it 70 years later. It was found by a billionaire named Paul Allen the co founder of Microsoft. It was found in the Sibuyan Sea in the Philippines. This topic interested me because I am somewhat a fan of history so it was interesting to hear that they found a sunk a 70 year old battleship at the bottom of the ocean because it is a big part of are history as well as the Japanese.
I commented On Carlos, Elenia, and Isabella P
