Blog 1/26/15 Rivals

Prompt: Describe the characters and there personalities and what there role is in the book
Pages read: 85 to 115

Josh, Josh is the main character in this book. He is a very hard working and respectful boy. He would always be the first one at the practice and the last one to leave and whenever he is at a friends house he has such good manners that the parents want to keep Josh. Throughout the book Josh is starting to feel like he is responsible for his families finances because with his talent he is capable of getting sponsorships that will help out with his families finical problems. Don't get me wrong the parents are trying very hard to get out of this problem but there main way to get rid of this problem is to ride on the back of Joshes talent. So basically Josh has a huge responsibility to take care of his family.

Jaden, Jaden is on of Joshes closest friends. She is also a writer for the newspaper back in their hometown. She goes to every one of Joshes games she says only because she needs something to write about but others think that she only goes because she likes Josh and want to watch him play. Jaden is a very polite and is a really good friend she is so polite sometimes she is considered more polite then Josh. She is also like a spy for the Titans what she does is go to the other game and ask around and find out what the other teams game plan is and stuff like that. So in all Jaden has a huge impact on the book because she is always supporting Josh and is always mentally positive.

The third character that I want to talk about is Joshes dad. Joshes dad is the head coach of the Titans. He is one of the main reasons why Josh is playing baseball he is very supportive of Josh and only wants what’s best for Josh. Joshes dad used to play in the minor leagues and was a pretty good player. Like Jaden Joshes dad is very mentally positive he always tries to find the best in things even when there isn't much to be happy about. One thing that Joshes dad needs some work on is putting his foot down and saying no means no. In the book when Josh got hit in the eye Josh was able to convince him to let him play even though josh could have been seriously hurt.

TKAM Difference Between Movie and Novel 1/12/15

Prompt: the most important difference between the written and filmed version? Provide evidence with specific details

Both the movie and the book were great pieces of work but they were both very different. The most important difference between the two is that in the movie some characters do are say different things then what they did in the book. Like how some characters are left out so then other character have to take there lines. Or how some scenes are left out so then they have to explain with other characters and different scenes. So reading and watching both the movies and the book its ads another prospective witch makes the story that much better.

An example of this is when Jem was the one who found the trinkets. Since he found them and not scout they had to make another scene to explain the trinkets. That scene is when we find out that Jem was hiding the trinkets from Scout. Even though Jem was first kind of selfish with the trinkets taking them for himself he matured enough to decide that it was not just for him and he shares it with Scout. So they show coming of age for Jem very differently in the movie then in the book.

In the book is made it very clear that Scout did not want to be considered a girl like figure she wanted to more of a tomboy. In the movie it never really emphasized the Scout more boyish behavior. With the los of Scout's more tomboy attitude I felt like she lost some of her comedy. Without the comedy that Scout provided in the book the movie was plainer and not as enjoyable.

Rivals blog 1/25/15

Prompt: Summarize about what has happened in the book so far.
Pages Read: 50-85

After Josh gained back conciseness he decided not to take his base and go for the home run that could decide if they will be going to the Cooperstown travel tournament. As Josh steps up to the plate he saw the look on the pitchers face that almost maid him laugh. The first pitch is delivered STRIKE ONE Josh didn't even swing the second pitch is delivered this time Josh swings big but just misses STRIKE TWO.  The third pitch is delivered it was a curveball but Josh read the pitch all the way and swung with all his might and sends the ball past the fence and sends the ball into the mountains a 2 run homer to put his team the Titans up by one.

The next batter strikes out in three pitches and the Titans take the field for the last time in the game. Amazingly after Josh getting beamed in the eye with a 65-mile an hour curveball he is also capable of taking the field. The pitcher for the titans walked the first batter and the second but the third batter grounders the ball right at the second basemen and the second basemen digs the ball right up of the ground and the Titans turn a game changing double play. Since the Titans were turning a double play the runner was able to advance from second to third. It comes down to the very pitcher that beamed Josh in the head Planczeck. The pitch is delivered and Planczeck hits a solid pop fly behind Josh and Josh made a pretty much impossible catch to win a game for the Titans.

After the Titans picked up Josh and carried him of the field his parents had to rush him to the emergency room to make sure there is no permanent damage to the eye. They get a doctor to take a look at josh right away and after taking multiple tests such as X-rays, MRIs, and eye sight tests the doctors finally came to the conclusion that Josh had cracked the bone behind the eye that keeps the eye on place. The options were to either let the bone heal naturally which would mean that Josh would not be able to participate in the Cooperstown tournament and the second option is to have surgery to help heal the bone faster but the one risk is that in the proceeded goes wrong it could lead to permanent damage to the eye. This is where Josh has to make the hardest decision of his life.

Thats A First: Choose Your Own Adventure

Prompt: When was the last time I did something for the first time

The last time I did something for the first time was not that long ago it was the morning of christmas.  Well now that i think of it, it was actually two thing that I did for the first time in only a time span of about 3 minuets. The first one was that I actually woke up kinda late for christmas. Ever since I could remember I have always waken up first on christmas and would then wake up the rest of my family. But this year for reasons that I will explain in the next couple of paragraphs I woke up late and because my family is so used to me waking them all up they would not wake them selves up. So in the end we ended waking up around 9:00 9:30 when we would usually wake up around 6:00. That was one of my first new things that I have done.

The second and more significant thing that I have done for the first time was also on christmas morning. It was the reason why I slept in, it was because both of my grandpas were over at my house for christmas. One of my grandpas was on my dads side we call him Grandpa Bob and my other grandpa was on my moms side and we call him Grandpa Juan. The reason why we have never spent christmas with both of them is because grandpa Bob used to live in LA so this is really his first year with us during Christmas. And Grandpa Juan never spent christmas with us because he live in Indiana and dose not have a car so it is a big hassle for him to somehow get to are house.

Yea this christmas was especially special for my mom because before she was really old enough her mom and dad divorced and grandpa Juan moved away to Indiana. So my mom has never spent a christmas with her dad. It was really special to be apart of I could tell that my mom was very excited to spend her first christmas with her dad. Yeah and having both of my grandpas over opening presents with us was very special for me and my mom. And that was the last time I did something for the first time .
