Night 3/26/15

Prompt: Describe the characters and the settings

So far in this book we have not meet to many characters. Really the only characters we have meet are Elie his family and Moshe. Other than that we have not been introduced to another characters that have a huge effect on the story. The first person I want to talk about is Elie, he is the main character in the book so fair. He is around the age of 12 and is thirsty to learn more about his religion and his culture. Even though his dad disagrees with him wanting to learn about his religion Elie still continues to want to be a master of Kabbalah. I feel like Elie has not completely found his place in the community of the world. He has not found the path that he will take for the rest of his life like most 15-year-old boys. Instead he is still learning and under the influence of his family and community members.

Moshe is the second character I want to talk about.  At first I thought he was the main character because he was talked about a lot but I soon realized Elie was the main character. Moshe is Elie's role model when it comes to Judaism and there religion. Moshe is poor but still has faith on his religion. Even though Moshe kind of disappears from the book after a couple a pages he still is the represents the commitment of Judaism.

The setting of this book first starts in a small town called Sighet in Transylvania. It is in 1944 right before Germany was defeated in WW2. Basically all the community members are Jewish but they still are very open to other people. After the first 17 pages the setting change from Sighet to a ghetto. After a couple of weeks maybe they started making it into a normal community with police, jobs, and even a small government. Then they went to the concentration camps were the conditions were terrible. It was something that no one should have to ever endure
.
