The main character of this book is Kiyoi he is Japanese and loves art. Early in his life art was important to him. His mother never let him go out side and play because she was afraid of him getting hurt. So to keep him inside she gave him comic books to read. When he was reading Kiyoi got fixated on the comic strips and started trying to draw them. Kiyoi could't show his drawings to his father because his father thought artistes were lazy and not responsible people. Kiyoi was a very smart student but he was never able to completely focus he would always draw sketches in his notebook during class. But one day his mother and father divorced and him and his sister had to move in with their dad for a couple of years until his mother came and took them back.

  1. Nice blog. I like how well you summarize the book. I can really understand it. You should make sure you read over your blog before posting it because there are some things misspelled.

  2. Nice summary. I feel like Kiyoi is very grown-up to make his own decisions in life, like getting his own apartment, asking to be a apprentice, and then deciding that he wanted to live his home to go to America. Overall great blog.

  3. Good summary. Gabe double check spelling. But aside from that I can understand and know what your book is about from your summary. Is this book for battle of the books?

  5. Gabe,
Great blog this week, I really enjoyed it! Your book seems (and is) very short, and also seems bitter sweet. The main character seems like a good kid, but the one thing that confuses me is, that his Dad ends up bringing him to America and he becomes like a professional artist, but I thought his dad didn't want him to become an artist. Anyway, I think you did a great job summarizing, though watch out for spelling/grammar errors! This sounds like a great book, and I look forward to reading more of your blogs in the future.
